There are superb walking opportunities from the doorstep and lake and fell views from the grounds. You can catch the Ullswater steamer nearby, with various drop off points around the lake. For that special occasion you can dine at the re-knowned Sharrow Bay Hotel, which is only 5 minutes walk. The Ullswater yacht club is directly opposite, weekly membership can be purchased if you wish to bring a boat, please contact direct - www.ullswateryachtclub.org Pooley Bridge is 2 miles and has cafes, shops and pubs.
